On Monday June 17th, 2019 Warren County Prosecutor Dave Fornshell announced a former Springboro physical education teacher faces a 36-count indictment of gross sexual imposition charges.
Reportedly 25 year old John Austin Hopkins a former Springboro Community City Schools teacher was indicted by a Warren County prosecutor on 36 counts of gross sexual imposition.
According to Prosecutor David Fornshell all counts are felonies of the third degree. Hopkins was a physical education teacher at Clearcreek Elementary and Springboro Intermediate.
Fornshell added the 25 year old Hopkins of Springboro was captured on surveillance video having inappropriate physical contact with 88 first grade girls.
Nonetheless continues Fornshell to say; “At the time of the incidents, Hopkins was employed by the Springboro Community City Schools as a physical education teacher at Clearcreek Elementary and Springboro Intermediate.”
Ohio laws provided that felonies are by definition the most serious cases that can be brought to a criminal court. Actually, they causes the most harm to their victims and, as a result, carry the most severe penalties for those convicted of the crimes. Third-degree felonies carry penalties of one to five years in prison in Ohio. If my math is right and if Hopkins is convicted to the 36-counts of gross sexual imposition he could be facing 180 years behind bars.
Subsequently, the grand jury then returned an indictment on 36 counts related to Hopkins’ contact with 28 of the students. Thusly, Fornshell office called a special session to present all 88 video-taped incidents to a grand jury.
Moreover, the prosecutor did not elaborate on any reason of the grand jury just that the grand jury returned indictments for 28 of the 88 students and it may have been predicated by the way each of the girls was touched.
Also, Fornshell referenced and somewhat elaborated on one particular instance where Hopkins supposedly told one of the girls that they will be married when she is older thus creating an environment for the girls to compete for his affection. Quite simply they were swept up into an unparalleled web deception.
According to the prosecutor said that in some cases, the assault is worse for the parents of the girls because they comprehend what has happened, but the girls are too young. Unfortunately, this serves as a lesson in teaching children about what is and isn’t okay in regards to their physical safety.
Apparently, Hopkins taught both first and sixth grade at Clearcreek Elementary and Springboro Intermediate over the past school year. Prior to that, he was a substitute teacher in the school district.
Although both boys and girls were present in the gym during the time of the sexual contact Hopkins only touched the girls.
Fornshell added, as far as Springboro police have acknowledge, Hopkins did not have any contact with the older students.
School officials said; subsequently at the time the 25 year old John Austin Hopkins was place on administrative leave in March when the school district began investigating allegations of possible misconduct. He late resigned.
