According to Police Officer a shooting that occurred at approximately 12:35 P.M. on Wednesday in the vicinity of Gilsey Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio has resulted in the arrest of a third suspect in connection with a shooting that injured an 11-year-old girl on Christmas Day in West Price Hill.
Reportedly, investigators said a man was walking down the street when a gray BMW approached him. The man and another occupants in the car started shooting at each other. Subsequently a strayed round struck the girl.
The young child (the girl) was taken to Children’s Hospital suffering from non- threatening-life injuries.
Nicolas Lopez, the child’s father said, the bullet went into his daughter’s side and required surgery to remove it. He continued to say his daughter, Maria, is expected to remain in the hospital for a week.
Lopez added, “I did not believe at first she had been shot. But they told us that she has lost a lot of blood, and she might need some transfusions.”
Also, “She was screaming when she got shot and I saw the blood. At first, I didn’t believe it because she was still walking. She said, ‘Take me to the hospital,'” her father said. “She seemed tense about it and started screaming ‘I’m gonna die.'”
As a result of good old fashion police work, later police officers were able to find the BMW in the 900 block of Rosemont Avenue. A follow-up investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Brian Castro. Also, on Christmas Day a juvenile was arrested and charged with felonious assault.
Subsequently, Castro appeared in court on Thursday on one count of felonious assault. Thusly, his bail was set at $500,000 and he was ordered to stay away from the girl and her family.
According to court records, police also arrested 19-year-old Rockel Duke on Thursday in connection with the shooting.
Reportedly, police believes that Duke is responsible for firing the shot that hit the 11-year-old girl. Accordingly, he has been charged with felonious assault.
According to Sgt. Frank Beavers, with Cincinnati police, “Mr. Castro and Mr. Duke were in a vehicle. They were traveling down Gilsey.”
Beavers continued to say, “from our conversation with the witnesses, there was some kind of a gun battle dispute between the two of them and then with the juvenile on the street.” Accordingly, the juvenile and Castro were arrested on the same day.
Moreover, Beavers followed-up and said, “It’s easy to become cynical when it’s the same guys involved in the same things and they don’t want your help. Here’s somebody that’s innocent, that had nothing to do with it. It’s kind of easier for us to step up and have a voice for that person.”
Meanwhile, the investigation continues. Anyone with further information is strongly urged to contact the police at 513-352-3040.
